Fictional events are not historical facts by themselves, but stories are once they are told.

Han shot Greedo. We know he did because we were in the theater and watched it. There are real historical writings, images, and dialogue about the Star Wars universe. When you change them, you are denying people their own histories and identities.

If decide you don't like the Greeks' skin color and cast your own racial preferences, you are denying an entire people its objective history. That is disrespectful.

One evening, years ago, I had a visit from the Muse. An idea for a story came into my mind, but it didn’t feel like it was coming from me. I felt like I was having a conversation in my head with someone else. My conscious mind would ask something like, “And what happens next in the story?” and without any hesitation, I would get an immediate answer. I’ve done a lot writing since then, but I’ve never had that experience repeat itself. At the time, I just assumed that it was my subconscious speaking to my conscious mind. Now, I’m not so sure.
