More wisdom from Paolo Munoz, aka GameDiviner, who also allowed me to share his keen insights here and here.
True storytelling is the author presenting to the audience, and the story itself is a spirit that has a life of its own. It is Trinitarian in nature.
"Woke" storytelling is a violation of this relationship. And the only word for what has been happening to so many beloved IP is "sacrilege" for which the only real true reaction is to scream "blasphemy" because it desecrates the Trinitarian nature of storytelling.
And yes, life itself is the story God is telling.
Moreso, if you take insights from Dr. Jordan Peterson, he asserts that human consciousness perceives and orients itself to the world in story format. Even the progressive monster on the other side of the political spectrum, Yuval Harari (second in command of the WEF and author of "Sapiens"), has asserted the same: that human beings and human societies cannot function without stories.
The rhythm of the Mass (the source and summit of the Christian life), is first the acknowledgement of one's personal responsibility on why things aren't where they are supposed to be (in the Penitential Rite and the Confiteor). It immediately moves towards glorifying God and reorienting ourselves towards the beauty and glory and unity of the Trinity followed by reentering into the story - diving into Sacred Scripture.
It's all stories. The Last Judgment is the final unveiling of how all stories intertwine and interconnect.
The story itself is an icon of the Holy Trinity - the Son who departs and returns to the Father in the shared breath of the Spirit. St. Thomas Aquinas in the summa mentioned how the migratory patterns of birds are a reflection of that "coming and going" of the Son who is eternally begotten and eternally returns infinitely fruitful. The "Hero's journey" is like another reflection of this pattern. Jung had it wrong that the "Hero's Journey" was derived by some human-based "collective unconscious". It actually is a primordial recognition of the Holy Trinity.
Well, that is a bit of a digression, but I'm glad I could share this thought with far more intelligent minds than myself. :)
Have a Merry and Blessed Christmas Eve!
Politics does belong in storytelling. It may influence its creation in some ways, but it cannot replace organic and honest fiction development.
Mr. Munoz has a solid insight here. The Narrativists are the villains.
"Moreso, if you take insights from Dr. Jordan Peterson" be careful. His writings are characters from The Man Who Was Tuesday. Useful or at least innocuous truth is wrapped up in gnostic mystery, while true mysteries might as well not exist.
His writings and speeches are not straightforward enough to spot wrongness in.
