I had read elsewhere that in hell one loses the ability to lie to oneself. Like the old Chinese curse of living in ‘interesting’ times, the implication is chilling when you think about it. Like Tolkien describing being brought before Sauron’s lidless eye to be endlessly exposed.

I saw a meme recently where Johnny dies and goes to hell (unexpectedly). When he arrives, the devil recollects his golden fiddle and Johnny says, “But I beat you!” To which the devil replies it was never about the fiddle, it was about the sin of pride. Interesting take on the song, and illustrative of Satan playing the long game.

I'd call BS on Bridget (respectfully). It seems silly to think that God's mercy is beholden to a system of equal measures. It may be nice to think that's why the wicked prosper, but it's probably more because they're cooperating with powers of evil, who offer all sorts of temporal comforts to keep us from seeking eternal ones.
