Chincoteague Addendum
Dolphins
When my brother and I were very small, my mother made us blue and green denim dolphins. We named them Bottlenose and Sprinklestream and played with them for years and years, telling all sorts of stories about them and expanding their family to include Bumpy the Dinosaur Bird (also made of blue and green denim by my mother.)
I have loved dolphins every since, but I have only ever seen them in the wild at Chincoteague.
This year, we thought we were not going to be able to take the yearly boat trip my mother used to pay for and which we have not been able to swing some of the years since she departed for grander oceans….but, somehow, we were able to arrange it.
I got the best pictures I have taken yet of dolphins. (My pictures are not as good as my daughter’s, but here they are.) Our boat came upon a pod, with mothers and calves.
The other animal I loved madly as a child was deer. We arrived this year at our cottage and:
And here, just because, is the young buck who bowed to my eldest son. This was not at Chincoteague. This was near our house. Orville waved at the deer three times. Each time, it bowed its head in return.
I have never seen nor heard of anything like it.

I know you were kids and I'm not trying to be demeaning, it was cute, but one of your dolphin names made me laugh out loud:
Sprinklestream
Sounds like something I'd feel the need to report to my urologist.
I grew up in the Midwest and never got within 500 miles of the ocean in my youth...then I spent 21 years in the Navy. I share your love of dolphins. I have hundreds if not thousands of old 35mm pictures of them playing in the wake of the ships I was on over the years.
My experience with older bucks a bit different - wish I could post the pic of one several point leaving some fertilizer in my back yard while his family feasted on our green delectables. His eyes were locked onto mine.
