The unusual behavior of Hurricane Helene has many discussing the issue of: Does our country have the ability to steer hurricanes?
I do not have an opinion on the matter at the moment, but I thought I would lay out what I have seen on both sides.
There have been rumors about this for decades, usually revolving around HAARP, the High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program of the University of Alaska at Fairbanks, which is designed to study the weather…or to control it? You decide! :-)
Pro-Hurricane Control: Those who say that the government can control hurricanes list patents granted on related topics, describe strange behaviors of radio towers or specific planes right before storms passed that way, mention declassified operations using weather as an attack during the Vietnam War, and more.
Anti-Hurricane Control: The main argument of those against is: Have you seen a hurricane? Do you have any idea how much power is involved, how little anything man can do would accomplish?
My thoughts:
I don’t find the anti-hurricanes’s arguments very persuasive because there are other things that seem too big to affect…until you learn the particulars. Then, you find out there is some way to do so.
So I can conceive that someone who had studied them might discover something, involving air pressure, or heat and cold, or whatever, that could either increase the strength or influence the direction such a storm would go. Not saying such a thing does exist, just that the sheer size of the storm is not enough, by itself, to convince me such a thing does not exist.
What I would find more persuasive would be someone who examined the specific claims of technologies, etc, and debunked or explained them.
To this end, I will go first:
The pro crowd mention Operation Popeye—a Vietnam War operation that influenced the weather as part of an attack. It is described on Polarpedia as “a top-secret campaign, highly classified weather modification program in Southeast Asia during 1967-1972. The United States Air Force was engaged in the only known hostile geoengineering – militarization of meteorology.”
However…if you look into the details, Operation Popeye seeded clouds to extend the monsoon season, so that the ground was wetter, softening roads, creating landslides, and other things useful to their military efforts.
Cloud seeding is a scientific phenomenon that is not disputed. But I have not seen, to date, any evidence that cloud seeding would have much of an effect on a hurricane.
So, while the existence of Operation Popeye is interesting, it does not really weigh in on the issue of whether or not mad scientists working for Bureau 13 have figured out how to drive hurricanes like golf carts.
If anyone out there has more information about specific scientific claims, I would love to hear them.
There is one thing we can do when natural disasters threaten, one source who is “a present help in trouble.” To that end, here are some pertinent verses.
He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. (Psalm 107:29)
and
And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him? (Mark 4:35-41)
And, of course:
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. (Psalm 91)
That is the only comfort I have to turn to in these turbulent times for sure. The only hope we have is in our God, and knowing that He is in control. Sometimes He brings us into green pastures; sometimes He takes us through storms, but I have faith and confident hope that He will see me through to the other side, and while the here and now may be hard times and filled with sorrow, I know my God has His sights on eternity, not now. When I see where this country and this world is going socially, I remind myself I am strangers in a foreign land on my pilgrimage to my true home in the kingdom ruled by my true King.
However, for some perspective, a fully developed hurricane delivers the power of a 10-megaton nuclear bomb *every 20 minutes*
